Vardenafil

The active ingredient in Levitra, a prescription erectile dysfunction treatment, is vardenafil.

What is Levitra vardenafil?

Levitra vardenafil relaxes muscles and increases blood flow to particular areas of the body. Levitra vardenafil is used for the treatment of erection problems.

Can I take Levitra vardenafil?

If you are above the age of 18 and suffer from erection problems, inability to achieve or maintain an erection, you may consult a doctor to get Levitra vardenafil.

What should I tell my doctor before taking Levitra vardenafil?

Tell your doctor if you are using a nitrate drug for chest pain or heart problems. This includes nitro-glycerine, isosorbide dinitrate, and isosorbide mononitrate. Nitrates are also found in some recreational drugs such as amyl nitrate or nitrite 'poppers'. Taking vardenafil with a nitrate medicine can cause a serious decrease in blood pressure, leading to fainting, stroke, or heart attack.

Before taking Levitra vardenafil, tell your doctor if you have:

  1. Heart disease or heart rhythm problems
  2. a recent history of a heart attack, angina or congestive heart failure
  3. history of stroke or blood clots
  4. a personal or family history of 'Long QT syndrome'
  5. high or low blood pressure
  6. liver disease
  7. kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis)
  8. a blood cell disorder such as sickle cell anaemia, multiple myeloma, or leukaemia
  9. a bleeding disorder such as haemophilia
  10. a stomach ulcer
  11. retinitis pigmentosa (an inherited condition of the eye)
  12. a physical deformity of the penis (such as Peyronie's disease)
  13. if you have been told you should not have sexual intercourse for health reasons

If you have any of these conditions, you may not be able take vardenafil or you may need a dosage adjustment or special tests during treatment. You may need a lower dose of this medication if you are older than 65.

How should I take Levitra vardenafil?

Take Levitra dose with a full glass of water. Avoid taking high-fat food before taking Levitra as it may cause the medicine to take more time to start working. Levitra vardenafil is usually taken when needed, 30 to 90 minutes before sexual activity. Vardenafil can help achieve an erection only if sexual stimulation occurs. An erection will not occur just by taking a pill.

Do not take vardenafil more than once a day. Allow 24 hours to pass between doses.

What are the possible side effects of Levitra vardenafil?

  1. chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling
